INdT launches another successful game. Published globally in January this year, Get the Parachute already has over 70,000 downloads. The game is free and available to Windows Phone users.

The player must help a skydiver cat who fell from a plane without its parachute. The cat has only 30 seconds to reach it in free fall. During the fall, many birds will try to stop the cat reaching its goal. In order to bypass these obstacles, the player must use the phone accelerometer by moving it to the left or right. In addition, the user can accelerate the fall speed by tapping on the screen.

Altogether, there are 10 stages to be unlocked. A version containing more levels of difficulty is being created and will soon be available for download.

The Nokia Institute of Technology (INdT) developed on the Nokia Transit platform for the ASHA S40 series, Nokia mobile devices line. The beta trial mobile service for urban travel planning is available for free download on Nokia Beta Labs, Nokia’s portal to submit new applications.

The system, which already existed for WEB , SYMBIAN and Windows Phone platforms, comes to increase the location solutions for Nokia’s entrance smartphones. “INdT hs adeveloped a version for the ASHA line, which is the Nokia’s platform with greater coverage in the world. Altogether, 10 global models already support Nokia Transit,” says Jorge Siqueira, product manager at INdT.

The system allows the user to:

- Search for public transport stations;
- Choose from multiple routes and a list of directions for buses, subways or trains (when available);
- Use the navigation maps to walk to the holding points;
- Plan routes using time options;
- Save favorite paths for offline use, saving time and money on data plans;
- Find nearby stations and departure times;

The Nokia Institute of Technology (INdT) launches a new games. Published two weeks ago, the Wake Woody has been downloaded more than 100,000 times. The game is free and available to Windows Phone users.

Woody is a dog whose greatest passions are radical wakeboard and coins, many coins. To win the stages, the player must have the ability to move their fingers to make the dog jump the obstacles lying ahead and win more coins. Special maneuvers deviate Woody of stones, coconut and even sandbars that come in the way. Altogether, the Lite version brings 5 stages the user can unlock.

Nokia Institute of Technology was one of the supporters of Programming Marathon organized by the Institute of Computing at the Federal University of Amazonas (iCOMP / UFAM) 2012, realized in Brazil by the Brazilian Computer Society, in partnership with the Carlos Chagas Foundation, and that makes part of a worldwide competition sponsored by the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest supported by IBM. The regional stage AM / RR is the final qualifier for Brazil, which is part of the South American stage, qualifying for the finals of this world programming contest.

The competition is aimed at undergraduate and postgraduate in Computer Science (Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Computational Mathematics, among others). The goal is to promote creativity in problem solving, the ability to work in teams, the ability to solve problems under pressure, always applying theoretical concepts and advanced programming methods, which prepare students for major scientific challenges and labor market, serving as a basis in the search for new solutions in software development and technological innovation in general.

“Supporting this competition gives us the opportunity to participate in the development of new software solutions, thus contributing to the professional development of students,” says the human resources manager INdT, Vanessa Milon.

The Buscapé Mobile , developed in an innovation partnership with Nokia Institute of Technology (INdT), allows users to make product comparisons, pricing consulting and online shopping. Altogether, there are over 15 thousand stores and 10 million different products available. The application is available in Portuguese, Spanish and English.

The application provides features such as: barcode reader, view offers in maps,  filters for refining searches, favorites list, details and reviews of products and share offers on social networks.

Teaching software testing for computing students and perform research in the area. This project was designed by the Institute of Computing (IComp), of the Federal University of Amazonas (UFAM). The only thing missing was a partner. The Nokia Institute of Technology (INdT) entered into this partnership in 2011 to develop skills in this type of test. Participating students would then gain a scholarship to conduct research in the area and support INdT’s real projects. Many results have been obtained in this collaborative work, including the nomination to compete for the prize of the  Brazilian Program for Software Quality and Productivity (PBQP-Software) Dorgival Brandão Júnior of Software Quality and Productivity 2012.

During this process, three workshops were open to the community and were presented at UFAM. There was also the support from students to INdT’s projects, such as the 3G Location API,  Stock Taking System, Audioguide, Ceteli applications and Nokia S40 test prototype. All these activities counted on the coordination and supervision of Eliane Collins, coordinator of the  Product Validation team, and Gisele Macedo, technical leader of the partnership.

There were two trainings for employees in INdT, one of them was a unit test and the other was related to automation test. In addition, the customization of  two tools to support software testing of Product Validation team was performed. One of the students stood out and, nowadays, she is part of the Product Validation team at INdT. There were a total of eight students trained in this area who are developing  graduation and master’s degree projects in this area.

At this time, three papers were published in international events in the area. They are: Workshop on Automation of Software Test, IEEE International Conference on Global Software Engineering and Workshop on Software Test Automation. And yet, a national publication in the Brazilian Symposium on Software Quality. In addition, four students from the partnership obtained international certification in software testing CTFL. A prominent event in the community was organized, I Amazon Gathering of Software Testing (EATS).

Due to these positive results, the recognition. This partnership project was nominated to compete for the prize PBQP Dorgival Brandão Junior of Software Quality and Productivity 2012.

The Ecosystem Latam, technical and scientific program for  cooperation between Nokia Institute of Technology (INdT) and Latin American universities, completes one year with positive results: partnerships with 21 Brazilian universities – in 9 different states – and 5 others in Mexico, Colombia and Argentina, training over than 2500 students and published about 150 apps for S40 and Windows Phone.

“Results like these shows that we are on the right track. In that first year we were able to strengthen our relationship with students and teachers, such important people who help us turning into practice the technology that we want to develop.
