INdT celebrates the milestone of 2 million applications downloaded in the Nokia store
Thursday, 19 Jan 2012Users from over 200 countries already downloaded the free apps developed by the Brazilian institute; other local developers are also enhanced abroad.
The popularity of the INdT apps, technological research and development arm of Nokia in Brazil, in the company’s applications store continues to grow. Only during last year, the number of downloads recorded an increase of over 260%. Now the Institute celebrates the landmark of 2 million downloads of its apps. The programs, all developed in Brazil, were downloaded in over 200 countries. In total, 70 apps were published by INdT.
“It is very good to see that our work is being recognized not only in Brazil, but also in several other places worldwide”, emphasizes the application development area of INdT, Angelo Nicolay. An example of success is the Facelock app, which allows the apparatus to be cleared by means of facial recognition. The application compares two images, one previously warehoused in the handset, and the other captured by the front camera – to release the telephone. The user has then two ways of clearing the product p using his face or a predetermined password. Up to the moment, this application has already been cleared over 200 thousand times in 200 countries.
For the Nokia Services and Ecosystems manager, Daniel Rocha, the success of the applications is due to the innovative profile and the technical quality of the development teams. “All navigation experience is formatted for the Nokia smartphones. This makes the use of the apps both pleasant and intuitive. The users have access to information and entertainment and may share their experiences, he emphasizes.
INdT is a pioneer in research on cell phone applications in the Country. Together with the technological development, the institute has had, for over 10 years, the mission of spreading knowledge and fostering the development of local competences, promoting the technological cooperation with universities by means of speeches, training and courses. Currently, the list of apps developed by the institute is large and diversified. Among them, we may enhance some successful cases: Happy Birthday, Desguiator, MobileDeck, Magnifier and Color Detector.
Nokia development Ecosystem In addition to the expressive INdT numbers, other Brazilian developers have been very successful with their applications in the Nokia Store. This is the case of IES2, a Campinas company addressed to mobile solutions in education and entertainment, which already had its applications downloaded over 1,1 million times, it so being that, from that total, the Dancing Fingers game must be enhanced, with over 640 thousand downloads.
And there are not only large companies developing attractive applications to the users. A good example is the student Luca Mattos Moeller (Padawan Apps), who, with his Flying Ball application (costing R$ 1,99) exceed the landmark of 500 thousand downloads.
“The users may expect many novelties in applications during year 2012. We are preparing innovative solutions for all operational systems used by Nokia, from S40 to Windows Phone”, concludes Nicolay.
